Author Focus: Karen Stubbs

A big part of our journey is the authors we partner with. This week, we would like to introduce Karen Stubbs, author of Moments with God for Moms–a new daily devotional for mothers.

Moments with God for Moms

While Karen is a new author to us, she has a mature and thriving ministry as well as a strong online presence. Her unique insights from being a mother and working with mothers at Birds on a Wire are poured into her book. It reflects her passion for helping moms experience motherhood in the way God intended it for them and their families.

Karen’s journey was not unlike that of many moms – seeking fulfillment, importance, and value in meeting the challenges of homemaking and raising children.

After graduating from Auburn University, Karen and her husband, Greg, moved to Virginia Beach where Greg served in the Navy as a fighter pilot. This was a difficult season in Karen’s life, but it was the season where she gained a passion for motherhood and grew in her reliance on God. Being married to a Navy fighter pilot, Karen found herself raising four children without a lot of help and, like many young moms, thought her feelings and challenges were unique while everyone else had it all together.

Ten years later, upon moving back to Atlanta, she met other moms who had similar struggles; this made her realize that other moms also desperately needed support and encouragement. What would eventually become Birds on a Wire ministry initially began with small, in-home meetings with other mothers in her church.

“BOAW pulls alongside moms to give practical advice and assures them that their heavenly Father is with them in this journey. If you have little ones or teenagers or any age in between, join us on this journey of motherhood.”
– KAREN STUBBS, Birds on a Wire

Since there was no curriculum geared toward this kind of ministry, Karen took on the daunting task of developing her own curriculum. The group grew in size and eventually multiplied into additional groups in and around the Atlanta area. BOAW has a current enrollment of more than 2,000 moms in 64 groups across several states.

“I don’t have the answers; I am not some guru of a mom. I made lots of mistakes. But I would love to teach you my mistakes and maybe we can all learn from them.”

What started as a few moms meeting in Karen’s basement has grown into a thriving ministry that provides support for women in all seasons of motherhood. Last year, 600 moms gathered for a weekend conference named SOAR.
Christian Art Gifts is on it second redesign and reprint of Karen's book, as it continues to be a bestseller amongst our devotional book offerings. Karen's words continue to encourage, and we've recently release her newest devotional, Moments With God for Teen Girls.
